Dear Friends of The Arc of Quinebaug Valley:

Last spring we wrote to you and shared about our neighbors and friends who have intellectual, developmental and other life-affecting disabilities.  The Arc provides opportunities for individuals to discover their abilities and strengths in order to achieve their life goals.  Many of you responded in a very generous way.  You shared your resources and made a difference in many lives.  With heartfelt appreciation - we say thank you.  For those of you who have not, we invite you to become a community partner in our work which greatly impacts people in our local community.

For the past 58 years we have been there for families to turn to from the birth of their child through their retirement years with comprehensive programs and supports.  This past summer has been one of considerable growth and change at The Arc.  In January 2010, we were supporting 128 individuals, today we provide services to over 183 participants and their families with more referrals anticipated.  With this growth came the need to address space issues at our program center on Cook Hill Rd. and the need to expand.  As a result, we purchased a building in Danielson for our Day Services programs which will accommodate the needs of over 60 people.  The Arc Emporium store in Putnam has proven very successful, celebrating its second full year of business in November.

Our Education Department has grown considerably offering full day and after school academic programs for students from area school systems.  It's location on the second floor requires us to install an elevator to assure all individuals with mobility challenges, including those who utilize a wheelchair, have full access to the classrooms, recreation rooms and our beautiful Sensory Room.  Our Employment Services Department has expanded and the agency is now and Employment Network for the Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work Program covering areas as far west as Manchester and south to Norwich and New London.

This year the need is especially critical.  Changes in state contract reimbursements have severely cut thousands of dollars from our annual budget.  As a non-profit in today's economy the need to do more with less has never been more challenging.

You can help.  Your investment in The Arc will allow needed services to make a difference in someone's life.  You will help someone with a life-affecting disability take the next step to independence and achieving their dreams.  Your tax deductible contribution will make a difference - but not just for anyone - for your neighbors right here in Northeastern Connecticut who need a helping hand.  Thank you on behalf of all of us at The Arc of Quinebaug Valley for supporting our annual campaign.

Sincerely,
